Trend Report: Seeing Red

Trend Report: Seeing Red

Controversial opinion: I LOVE when summer ends and autumn begins. Keep your floaty dresses and bikinis, I’m ALL about those big coats, snuggly jumpers, leather boots and oversized scarves! I love checking out what trends are out there each autumn and researching which of my favourite designer pieces the high street are replicating really well; this helps me to collate a wardrobe that coordinates and helps me to recreate the catwalk looks I love, instead of ending up with random pieces which don’t really go with anything else. So I thought I’d do a few posts which bring together my favourite catwalk looks for autumn and pieces which recreate the look on a high street budget.

I was overjoyed to see that red made a huge appearance on the aw17 catwalks in February. Red is my power colour, my signature and also the theme of my Instagram so I can’t wait to get stuck into bold-but-classy red colour blocking this season! All out red was a key theme in a number of shows, including Max Mara and Emporio Armani, and even though red is such a bold, stand-out colour, it is surprisingly extremely wearable and suits  most people, and it is sure to get you noticed! Here were a few of my favourite red catwalk looks…

Emporio Armani

My favourite of these looks has to have been the Max Mara in the centre, similar to the Givenchy look. A pencil skirt with an oversized jumper is such as classic versatile look which can see you from shopping on a cold morning to cocktails with friends in the evening.

This bell-sleeved, chunky knit from Topshop is the perfect cosy knit and pairs well with this red lace pencil skirt from River Island, especially cinched in at the waist with this ASOS belt (just £12!). Team with either these gorgeous Dior-esque kitten heels from Mango or go all-out with these sateen over the knee boots from Zara. Keep accessories chunky (Bag from ASOS, earrings Topshop and cuff bracelet River Island) and top the look off with a timeless red trench coat (from River Island) a la Emporio Armani, also perfect with an all-black ensemble.

Red also works really well in the office and I’ll definitely be wearing red for work this winter! These red trousers pictured from Mango (below) work really well with this ruched top from ASOS to recreate Oscar de la Renta’s perfect office-to-cocktail bar look. Pair with ankle boots if your feet can’t take the cold in strappy shoes – these River Island red leather boots went straight to the top of my wishlist the second I saw them!

Red (1)

Those who know me will know that Chanel is my favourite designer, and whilst red didn’t feature on the Chanel catwalk this season (more on the Chanel show in the next Trend Report) you can never go wrong with timeless Chanel-esque tweed. This Zara oversized tweed blazer in dark red with pearl buttons is sure to find it’s way into my wardrobe this season! If you’re all about those designer dupes, how about this River Island rockstud style cross body bag too?

So that about wraps up my first Scientific Beauty Trend Report for AW17/18. I have more posts like this planned so let me know what you thought of this one! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some shopping to do…
