Dreamy Castles and Classic Stripes
This time last year I turned 25, I was struggling with anxiety and I was hating life as a PhD student. Fast forward one whole year and life could not be better; I’ve finished my PhD, I’ve started working in my dream career, I’m living with my other half and we’re shopping around for somewhere to have OUR WEDDING! So I couldn’t say no to the offer of afternoon tea in an *actual castle* and fairytale Cheshire wedding venue to celebrate new beginnings and turning 26!
Peckforton Castle was on our list of venues to visit and it blew us away with it’s drama and stunning medieval features. We entered the impressive entrance gate, across what was probably once a genuine drawbridge, and into the large courtyard on this beautifully hot and sunny June day – perfect for photo opportunities in this gorgeous, South-of-France inspired striped shirt, I just love the tie detail!
Inside the castle was magnificent, everything you would expect from an old English castle – I really felt like I was following in the footsteps of Princesses walking down the corridors (though I wonder if medieval Princesses wore stilettos? They must have done, right??). It truly was a fairytale wedding venue, complete with Hogwarts-style ceilings and knights in shining armour.
Afternoon tea was served in a beautiful room which was done out with reception-style tables. Those who know me know that I am a HUGE tea fan and the afternoon tea did not disappoint, with sandwiches, fresh scones, petit fours and of course Prosecco to celebrate the occasion! I feel so different now that I’m out of the academic environment and focusing on new and exciting things, every day is worthy of celebration! And check out those beautiful red roses!
After the tea we got the chance to see an alternative wedding breakfast room which had tons of centrepiece inspiration – seriously, I need all the help I can get with this sort of thing so it was a good opportunity to get ideas! It was great to chat to the other bloggers who are also planning weddings, to compare notes and to see where they were all at with the preparations – who better to chat to for Instagram-worthy wedding inspiration? One of my birthday presents from my Mum was a HUGE coffee table book called ‘The Wedding Bible’, so I’m definitely going to need to study every page so that I have some idea of what I’m doing!
As my fiance and I got engaged in a French Chateau on our end-of-PhD French roadtrip, we are going to make sure that our wedding has a strong French influence; think Champagne, macarons and an understated elegance (though goodness knows how I’ll pull it off and turn chateaux dreams into reality!). Whilst Peckforton Castle was rather more Maid Marion than Maire Antoinette for our particular tastes, it would certainly be a spectacular place to hold a wedding and the Bloggers and Brides event gave us lots of ideas! It was so lovely to explore the castle and grounds on such a glorious day, chat to other bloggers and get excited about planning our own wedding… let the preparations commence!
